Religion is not a basis to create laws in the USA: we are not
run by ecclesiastical rule. Our constitution protects our rights to our own religious
expressions, however it does include expressing individual faith practices
through the legal system.
You and I would never be justified in
the act of taking the life of a defenseless person—even if previously your life
was threatened or another's was—once that threat has been neutralized we no
longer have the right to take deadly action.
Therefore it appears to me that we
cannot constitutionally transfer a right we DO NOT have to our State, the
government, without violating our own constitution.
Most of the world, those who advocate for human rights, have outlawed the death penalty - realizing that killing a defenseless person is barbaric act.
